Korean Star Featured in Latest John WOO Thriller

Korean actress HA Ji-won is about to return to screens as part of the cast of John WOO’s highly anticipated thriller Manhunt, said to be a return to the filmmaking style of his HK days. The film will have its world premiere at the 74th Venice International Film Festival on September 8th before screening at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival later in the month.

The film follows a prosecutor who is framed for several crimes and tries to clear his name while a Japanese detective is hot on his trail. HA plays a beautiful assassin and stars alongside ZHANG Hanyu, FUKUYAMA Masaharu and QI Wei. The film was shot in Osaka, Japan.

Star of LEE Myung-se’s The Duelist (2005) and JK YOUN’s Haeundae (2009) among many others, HA was most recently seen in the crime-comedy Life Risking Romance (2016) opposite Taiwanese star CHEN Bolin and leads the cast of the drama Hospital Ship, which begins airing on August 30.

From HK studio Media Asia, Manhunt is based on the novel You Must Cross the River of Wrath by Japanese author NISHIMURA Juko, which was previously adapted in Japan in 1976. The Japanese version of the book was the first foreign film to be screened in post-Cultural Revolution China, where it was an enormous success in 1978.
