MY LOVE, DON’T CROSS THAT RIVER Also Awarded at Italian Film Festival

JANG Kun-jae’s third feature A Midsummer's Fantasia won the Jury Prize for Best Film at the 16th Asiatica Film Mediale - Encounters with Asian Cinema Festival in Rome, Italy. The critically-praised indie shared the top prize with Abbas RAFEI’s Oblivious Season from Iran. Additionally, JIN Mo-young’s My Love, Don't Cross That River picked up the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the festival.

Following two well-received low-budget films, 2010’s Eighteen and 2013’s Sleepless Night, director JANG teamed up with Japanese cineaste KAWASE Naomi (who serves as producer) for the Korea-Japan co-production A Midsummer's Fantasia. The film opened the Nara International Film Festival last year before screening extensively on the circuit, including stops at the Busan, Vancouver, Hong Kong and Rotterdam International Film Festivals.

Late last year, JIN’s My Love, Don't Cross That River became the most successful independent release of all time in Korea, accruing 4.8 million admissions (USD 31.74 million). During its international run, the film has picked up prizes at the LA Film Fest (Documentary Prize) and Millenium International Documentary Film Festival (Special Award of the Jury).

The festival also staged a ‘Focus Corea' retrospective, which included modern Korean classics such as LEE Chang-dong’s A Peppermint Candy (2000), BONG Joon-ho’s Memories Of Murder (2003) and PARK Chan-wook’s Thirst (2009), while current titles MANSHIN: Ten Thousand Spirits (2014) from PARK Chan-kyong and BOO Ji-young’s Cart (2014) were also in the program. This year’s Asiatica Film Mediale took place over November 20th to 28th.
