Follow-Up for A HARD DAY Director KIM Seong-hun
Two of the peninsula’s biggest stars,
BAE Doo-na and
HA Jung-woo, have teamed up for new thriller
Tunnel, the third feature from
A Hard Day’s
KIM Seong-hun. Financier and distributor
Showbox Inc. is aiming to distribute the film early next year following the start of production at the end of the month.
Based on a 2013 novel of the same name by SO Jae-won, the story concerns a tunnel which collapses due to poor construction and the man stuck inside it. Joining the leads as a rescue worker will be top supporting star
OH Dal-su, who featured in the smash hits
Assassination and
Veteran this summer.
One of Korea’s most recognizable faces, BAE came to prominence with roles in
Take Care Of My Cat (2001),
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and
The Host (2006). Active both in Korea and around the world, BAE drew wide acclaim for her role in last year’s
A Girl at My Door and recently featured in the main cast for the first season of the Netflix show
Sense8 from the Wachowski siblings, and will enter production for its second season following the conclusion of the
Tunnel shoot.
One of the most bankable Korean stars in recent years, HA scored his biggest hit this past summer with
CHOI Dong-hoon’s
Assassination, which reached 12.7 million admissions (USD 86.56 million), the seventh highest total for a Korean film of all time.
Though he debuted with the high concept comedy
How The Lack Of Love Affects Two Men (2006), director KIM really made his name last year, when his sophomore film
A Hard Day was invited to the Director’s Fortnight sidebar of the Cannes Film Festival and subsequently became a major hit at home, accruing over 3.45 million admissions (USD 23.75 million).
