Cannes Sidebar Also Invites Animated Short MAN ON THE CHAIR

Following last week’s main announcements and Monday’s Critics’ Week selection, the Director’s Fortnight revealed their lineup for 2014 yesterday evening. Out of 19 features and 11 shorts selected this year, two Korean works will be screened, the Showbox thriller A Hard Day and the animated short Man on the Chair.

KIM Seong-hun’s sophomore work A Hard Day, coming eight years after his debut How the Lack of Love Affects Two Men, is a tight thriller that follows one homicide detective’s trials and tribulations after he tries to cover up a case of manslaughter that took place on the way to his mother’s funeral. The film stars HONG Sangsoo stalwart LEE Sun-kyun and notable character actor CHO Jin-woong.

Meanwhile, the French-Korean animated short Man on the Chair comes from director JEONG Da-hee. JEONG film previously screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Earlier Korean films to screen in the Director’s Fortnight sidebar include HONG Sangsoo’s Like You Know it All in 2009 and HUR Jin-ho’s China-Korea co-production Dangerous Liaisons and YEON Sangho’s The King of Pigs in 2012. This year’s Cannes Film Festival will run from May 14th to 25th, with the Director’s Fortnight running over 15-25.
