Mystery Film Co-Stars LEE Sung-min
Korean actor RYU Seung-ryong has signed on to play the lead role in the upcoming mystery film
Guest, from first time director KIM Gwang-tae. The film, which will go into production next month, will co-star LEE Sung-min.
Taking place after the Korean War, Guest will feature RYU as a father who moves to a remote mountain village with his son. Strange things start to happen in their new surroundings, which involve the village leader, played by LEE.
Following a string a high profile co-starring roles, RYU recently stepped up to leading man status, scoring a major hit with last year’s runaway Lunar New Year success Miracle in Cell No. 7. RYU’s new action-thriller The Target was invited to the Midnight Screenings of this year’s 67th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The actor will also feature alongside CHOI Min-shik in this summer’s naval epic Roaring Currents. Also on the cards for RYU is a voice role in YEON Sangho’s upcoming animation Seoul Station.
Before his directing debut, KIM Gwang-tae served as an assistant director on E J-yong’s Untold Scandal (2003) and LEE Han’s Almost Love (2006). Co-star LEE Sung-min most recently appeared in last year’s courtroom hit The Attorney and the current revenge thriller Broken.
Guest will be produced by UBU Film, which previously delivered the dramas Punch (2011) and this year’s Elegant Lies.
