ONE ON ONE Will Be Submitted to Cannes
Maverick auteur KIM Ki-duk is prepping his 20th film and joining him for his latest project is actor MA Dong-seok. MA will feature as a strong man filled with rage in
One on One (literal translation).
Little is known about the film’s plot at the moment but like KIM’s previous films, One on One will go into production quickly, aiming for a ten day shoot and completion head of May’s Cannes International Film Festival. The film will be submitted to the illustrious film jubilee in France.
Following his return to filmmaking in 2011, KIM’s films have proven very popular at festivals. His autobiographical Arirang (2011) picked up the Un Certain Regard Prize in Cannes while his film Pieta was the recipient of the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival in 2012. His most recent film, the controversial Moebius, is currently on the festival circuit, having already received 15 invitations following its Venice debut.
Following a string of roles as a character actor in notable works such as The Good, The Bad and the Weird (2008), The Unjust (2010) and Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time (2012), MA Dong-seok has been making the leap to leading actor in recent years, co-starring with JANG Young-nam in 2012’s Azooma and headlining last year’s Norigae and the recent thriller Murderer.
KIM and MA have already met for script readings of the project that is said to deal with torture. MA will also be seen in this summer’s big budget period action film Kundo: Age of the Rampant.
