SLEEPLESS NIGHT and YOUR TIME IS UP Will Compete for Top Prize

The 27th Fribourg International Film Festival announced its program on Thursday, which included a staggering 10 Korean films. The festival, which takes place over March 16-23, will feature 103 feature films and 46 short films from around the world.

Chief among this year’s selections are a pair of works invited to the international competition, reserved for works from South America, Africa and Asia. JANG Kun-jae’s Sleepless Night, which is in the midst of a remarkably successful festival run that began with a pair of awards from last Spring’s Jeonju International Film Festival will feature in the competition along with KIM Seung-hyun’s Your Time Is Up, a Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) graduation project that was unveiled during last October’s Busan International Film Festival, as part of the New Currents lineup. Both directors will be in attendance.

Also invited is IM Sang-soo, who will present his film The Housemaid (2010) alongside the original work by KIM Ki-young from 1960. His latest film The Taste of Money will also screen. The midnight section will feature both the enormously successful caper film The Thieves from CHOI Dong-hoon and the controversial historical torture exposé National Security by CHUNG Ji-young. The table tennis drama As One will feature in a special program dedicated to sports films while Ounie LECOMTE’s A Brand New Life (2009) will be part of the Youth on the Edge section. Additionally, the UK/Belgium/North Korea comedy Comrade Kim Goes Flying will screen out of competition.

Korean films to suite every taste will take over the picturesque Swiss medieval town when the festival gets underway next month.
