Jisoo and Wuju were in a relationship for 6 years. One day, Wuju brings a dead body to Jisoo's place. It is their friend, Young-bae. They fall into a dilemma whether they should embroider or abandon. At that time, Ki-wan,who runs a small restaurant, had a nightmare floating in space.
The film "Unknown" feels more like an experimental play, intentionally stripping away the conventional elements of emotion and events typically found in narratives. However, the film cleverly reveals a simple yet significant connection between two seemingly unrelated stories towards the latter part, loosely tying them together. Under the overarching theme of 'loss,' emotions and events intertwine chaotically, and the plot freely navigates between present and past. The distinct shapes of the initially separate stories begin to invade each other, with subtle distortions in narrative and form creating a fascinating viewing experience. This is why the early and middle parts of "Unknown" adopt a tone and manner akin to absurd drama. The impressive performance also stems from the emerging talent of actors like Kwon Ip-sae and Bantshion, combined with the contrasting stability of veteran actors Park Jong-hwan, Yang Jo-a, and Yoon Yu-seon. Directed by Lee Dong-gu, known for his acclaimed independent feature films, "Unknown" premiered at the Jeonju International Film Festival and the Seoul Independent Film Festival in 2023.
