Korean Academy of Film Arts organizes special workshops to boost the creative imagination of young filmmakers and build their knowledge through talks with masters from direction, acting, cinematography, special effects, and choregraphy. This project from KAFA+ which started in 2013 have invited filmmakers such as director PARK Chan-wook and JUNG Ji-woo, producer TCHA Sung-jae, action director JUNG Doo-hong and actor CHOI Min-shik in the past.
For a more intensive education program this year, the number of sessions have increased from two to four times a year, and the programs will strive to cover diverse topics to fulfil the needs of the attendees.
The 2015 workshop schedule is as follows. In March, Seoul Action School’s JUNG Doo-hong action director will invite three aspiring directors and three cinematographers (each with at least one short film experience) to come to his class. The session will then divide the six individuals into three groups, a director and a cinematographer in each, and under the leadership of JUNG, they will produce an action sequence. They will practice making a short action film, and after the workshop, director JUNG will give his insight on the final product.
Then in June, a shooting workshop will commence, followed by September with an editing master class. The guest instructors for these two sessions have not been determined yet. Lastly in November, a feature film director will lead students from the March, June, and September classes and assign each individual with different roles. They will make a short practice film and through the process learn how to communicate with each other while absorbing the know-hows of a master filmmaker. The 2015 master class application will be announced on the Korean Film Council’s website.
