Pastor Kim is a famous human right activist for North Korean refugees. With 'the North Korean Child Welfare Act' being enacted in the United States, he plans to adopt orphans from North Korea into American families. Hearing about two young sisters who escaped from North Korea, Pastor Kim and his brokers start a lifelong adventure.
As its title suggests, it challenges the way we see human rights activists and defectors. This film focus on the market perspective of the Human rights activism around North Korean defectors and it’s the result of director’s a decade long study of this field as a journalist.
This film is far from a feel good documentary that portrays human rights activists compassionate people with good hearts nor the defectors miserable people seeking for freedom. On contrast, it constantly questions the audiences what’s the line between human rescuing and human trafficking and the line between humanitarian acts and business.
