<First Love: 1989, Memory of Sumida> is the story of the Sumida Battle, which took place over 20 years ago, and about the passion and life of the heroes who have survived. Sumida Electronics was a Japanese company at the Free Trading Zone in Masan, Gyeongnam. When the factory was moved to a country in South Asia in 1989, the company one day faxed a paper with a notice of the closure of business and layoff of the entirety of its workforce. The women laborers became unemployed overnight. Their 4 representatives went to Tokyo, Japan where the head office of Sumida was located. They struggled for 8 months in the head office of Sumida Electronics, demanding negotiations with the company. Moreover, thousands of Japanese joined their struggle. The Japanese who joined the Sumida Battle 20 years ago say that the four Korean women changed their lives and that they had the courage to live on whenever they think of the women laborers. As they are reminded of the first love in their heart, they talk about the Sumida Battle, a story from 20 years ago. It becomes a warm journey to find their precious memory of the moment they shared.
