Indie Space is Korea’s first cinema entirely dedicated to independent film. First operated under the commission of KOFIC by the Indie Film Distribution Support Center, a group affiliated to the Association of Korean Independent Film & Video, Indie Space opened in central Seoul in 2007 with three screens. The cinema had to close momentarily at the end of 2009 due to political strife, and the next year the Group of Citizens for the Development of Independent Film Theaters was formed to take over the operations. A new Indie Space opened in 2012, using the unique screen of cinema Miro Space, before it moved to its current location inside the Seoul Cinema building.
