SAMGEORI Pictures is a film company that EOM Yong-hoon founded in 2009 in order to produce himself the rom-com project of his friend JEON Kye-soo, which its initial investors decided to abort as they deemed it too peculiar for the general public. After Samgeori participated in the production of several independent films, it took the whole industry by surprise in 2011 when it managed to turn <Silenced>, a fictionalized account of an actual case of sexual aggressions in an institution for hearing-impaired children, into a commercial hit. The feat was even more remarkable considering that Samgeori had struggled to secure financing for the project but still pushed ahead with it. What might have seemed like a one-off accident was repeated the following year, with JEON’s <Love Fiction> (2011) finally coming out. Indeed, this unapologetically realistic story of a romantic relationship that starred HA Jung-woo and GONG Hyo-jin benefitted from a positive word of mouth and became, against all odds, a sleeper hit. Its most recent release was the family drama <How to Steal a Dog> (2014).
