The Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival (JIFF) is an alternative and independent film festival that is held every year by Gangneung Cinematheque in the first week of August in Gangneung, on the East coast. Created in 1999 by the Korea Independent Film Association. it screens independent films that are accessible and can speak to all kinds of audience.
Outdoor screenings constitute the main events of the festival. All screenings are free of charge but the festival also features a unique form of pricing and audience participation in the Ting Grand Coin Award, as viewers are invited to vote with coins for the films they enjoyed the most. Each coin is equal to one vote regardless of its value, and the title that receives the most coins is crowned as the winner.
