A Film Preservation Center is to be constructed in Paju Book City as an extension of the Korean Film Archive. The Archive signed an memorandum of understanding with Paju Book City in which the two parties agreed to work together to build a second Film Preservation Center inside phase two of the Paju Book and Cultural Industry Complex. The second Preservation Center will be 8,600㎡ and the total cost for its construction is set to be KRW 33 billion. The center will include a preservation room for storing film, videos, digital footage and sound material as well as facilities for preserving and restoring such media. There will also be a movie theater at the center for film previews and screenings in addition to facilities for local residents. Construction will begin next year, with the center to be completed in 2014. The second Preservation Center will serve an important role in expanding the Archive's currently inadequate storage facilities as well as providing a safer space to store copies of original prints in case of natural disasters and the like.
