Indie-focused producer/distributor Fox Searchlight Pictures has set the US release date of
<Oldboy> director
PARK Chan-wook’s first English-language film, <Stoker>, for March 1, 2013.
<Stoker> traces the relationships between a recently widowed mother (Nicole KIDMAN), her daughter (Mia WASIKOWSKA) and an estranged uncle (Matthew GOODE) who suddenly resurfaces in their lives. The film’s powerhouse cast also features Dermot MULRONEY, Jacki WEAVER and Lucas TILL. The original script was written by American actor Wentworth MILLER, star of the popular TV series <Prison Break>.
March will not be without significant competition for <Stoker>. On March 1 director Neill BLOMKAMP will also release the follow-up to his 2009 <District 9>, the sci-fi feature <Elysium>, starring Matt DAMON and Jodie FOSTER. The month will also see the releases of <G.I. Joe: Retaliation>, starring LEE Byung-hyun, director Sam RAIMI’s <Oz: The Great and Powerful> and Tom HANKS maritime drama <Captain Phillips>.
As <Stoker> has been variously described as a thriller, drama, horror and etc., Fox Searchlight will have a variety of marketing strategies at its disposal as the crowded month approaches.
